To commemorate D Day´s 80th anniversary, the Year 9 students and iGCSE and A Level History students witnessed a special event hosted by the National Archives in London. Dan Snow, who is a BAFTA award-winning presenter, historian and author, presented some artefacts and interviewed the son of a soldier who swam to the Normandy beaches as part of D Day which brought about the end of World War II.
Documents held at The National Archives revealed the experiences of remarkable individuals. The live event included stories of undercover reconnaissance missions to Normandy beaches conducted in the dead of night, and enemy deception through top-secret messages written in invisible ink. Students heard personal stories of survivors and also had an opportunity to ask questions.
Anyway, a fantastic experience that our students will never forget.
