Make way for International Book Day 23rd April

23rd April marks the day to celebrate the love of reading and we hope to have inspired young minds into reading more. It is also the birthday of William Shakespeare so it is a great choice of date to recognise and reflect on the importance of reading.

Secondary students were given the challenge to create a display on their classroom doors to promote their favourite books. Judging their efforts was no easy task as there were so many creative designs. Each form from Year 7 to 13 worked on this task with the criteria of: staying true to the story, creativity and teamwork. These are the qualities which we want to endorse within the school. This activity allowed them to embrace these skills further.  We were astounded by the level of enthusiasm that students demonstrated in presenting the covers of the books that have shaped their childhoods and imaginations. The A Level Literature students were the experts tasked with judging the overall winners.

23rd April is also the final date of the ´NEED TO READ´, sponsored read where students participated in a sponsored read to raise money for Save the Children (Ukraine). More information on fundraising and amounts will be announced at later dates.
